SERVING GOD’S PURPOSE IN YOUR GENERATION
SCRIPTURE:
“Now when David had served God’s purpose in his own generation, he fell asleep; he was buried with his ancestors and his body decayed. 37 But the one whom God raised from the dead did not see decay.” (Acts 13:36—37)
OBSERVATION:
This part of Paul’s statement mentioning David got my attention. Paul was highlighting the difference between David whom the Jews revered and Jesus. As good as David was and found favor in the eyes of God, he died and his bones were still with the Jews. However, Jesus died and they can’t find his bones because he did not suffered decay, but rose again. And this is the good news. Jesus died and rose again and is present in our lives daily.
However, Paul mentioned that DAVID HAD SERVED GOD’S PURPOSE IN HIS OWN GENERATION, and then he fell asleep. He was buried with his ancestors and his body decayed. In every generation God has intended that all of us must serve His purpose in our lives. David was never a perfect person. But he was a person that was after God’s heart.
To be someone who is after God’s own heart does not mean that person is perfect and never sins. To live out God’s purpose in one’s generation is to be someone who is constantly aware of why one existed. Everything that David did, was part of his assignment from God. It was for him to live a life concentrated on the things that are most important on God’s heart. It means whenever he sins and fall short of God’s standard, David would repent often and frequent.
I am reminded that I cannot allowed sin and cultural traditions that I was raised in to stop me from living out God’s purpose in my life. Sin often distracts and sidetracks many from living out Jesus purpose in their lives. David was intentional in living out God’s purpose in his life. David also had a choice and that is to SERVE HIS PURPOSE AND PLANS or TO SERVE GOD’S PURPOSE AND PLANS in his life.
This is a blessing to be reminded to make sure that I am living my life intentionally so I may serve the purpose of God in my generation. I want at the end of my life here on earth be willing to say like David, I have lived my life to SERVE THE PURPOSE OF GOD in my life. This will be a joy no matter what the case maybe, I choose today to live for God’s purpose.
APPLICATION:
I will spend time reading and living the truth of Jesus words daily. I will continue to seek daily Jesus will of the things He wants me to do. I will continue to commit to encouraging others in teaching to live for the purpose of God in their lives. I am grateful to God for allowing me the opportunity to live out his purpose in my life.
PRAYER:
Jesus, I pray that you continue to teach me how to live out your purpose in my life. Open my eyes to see that I exist for your pleasure. Please teach me to fear you and to walk in obedience in such a way that it blesses your heart. Make my life a living sacrifice that is a joy to you. May you continue to teach me what things I must change to live out your purpose daily. Teach me your priorities and your plans and purpose so I may fulfill it. I look to you for your guidance. Amen!
