TITLE: DO NOT MAKE DECISIONS UNDER PRESSURE

SCRIPTURE:

“On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there, and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. When the wine was gone, Jesus’ mother said to him, “They have no more wine.” “Woman, why do you involve me?” Jesus replied. “My hour has not yet come.” His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.” Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons. Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water”; so they filled them to the brim. Then he told them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.” They did so, and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside and said, “Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.” What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee was the first of the signs through which he revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him. After this he went down to Capernaum with his mother and brothers and his disciples. There they stayed for a few days.”

(John 2:1-12 NIV)

OBSERVATION:

Here a need arises in a weddding.  The question for me is, why did the wedding ran out of wine?  Was it poor planning?  In the Jewish wedding celebration of old, it takes 7 days to celebrate.  How could they not plan well?  Their wine ran out halfway through the celebration.  Thus Mary the mother of Jesus came to him and said, “they have no mor wine.”

I learned from Mary a couple of things.  Firstly she knows something that many don’t know about the person of Jesus.  It was strange that the master of the banquet, didn’t make the request, but a quest to the wedding did.  Mary was a guest but yet she made the request to Jesus about the wine being ran out.

Mary knew who Jesus was and thus brought the need of the wedding to him.  Another observation was, Mary, hearing what Jesus said, “Woman, why do you involve me?”  Mary said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”  Mary knew that Jesus is able to do something about the need of the people.  No plan is problem proof or perfect.  The servers and planners at the wedding found that out.  Halfway through a week long wedding celebration, the wine ran out.

But I also noticed that at the sight of a problem a perfect place for a miracle.  Miracles are not needed when there are no problems.  Miracles are needed because there is a problem.  I learn from Mary that we must bring our problems to Christ knowing he is the solution to all that we face.  What she said to the servants to do whatever He said to do was a statement of faith.  She knew Jesus is able to provide.  I too must have that confindent bring my problem to Jesus.

What I learned from Jesus today, is, never be pushed to moved to do something out of time.  So many people think they are the answer to other people’s problems and they acted in the place they are not supposed to be. I must have the patience to wait on God’s timing.  Even though there was a legitimate need for wine, Jesus never try to do miracles to entertain people.  It was always so that the glory is reserved for God alone.

We must never try to react to do something out of pressure or because someone else tells us to do something.  There will always be moments when we feel the pressure to act out of our time.  Jesus never act out of pressure, but out of what brings glory to the Father.

Jesus later answered his mother’s request and instructed the servants to fill the jars with water and served it.  The master of the banquet tasted it and said to the bridegroom, Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.”.

The master of the banquet did not know where the wine came from.  The bridegroom did not know where the choice wine came from, but the servants did.  But the servants do not know how the wine was made.  They just put water and serve.  A miracle happened when they served the wine to the master of the banquet.

I learned today that when we obey Jesus, and do what he said to do, Jesus will always work on his time.  I am not to be concerned about how the wine is being made, I am not supposed to know the formula of how the choice wine was made.  I am only supposed to obey and serve, and Jesus does the rest.

What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee was the first of the signs through which he revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him. Every miracles revealed Jesus glory and does not focus on how strong my faith is.  Miracles are to reveal the glory of Jesus, and not how strong and powerful my prayers are.  Jesus will always hear our prayers but answer in a way that it is in his timing.  Never try to make things happen out of God’s leading and timing.

APPLICATION:

I am learning to resist moving out of God’s timing and try to make things happen on my own convinienc.  I want to learn more about waiting on Jesus and not be pressured to do things out of God’s timing.  I want to hear people’s concerns with discernment and my ear to the Holy Spirit to lead and guide me.  I must always make the glory of Jesus be my priority more than what I want him to answer my prayers.

PRAYER:

Heavenly Father, please teach me to always wait for your time to see things done.  Teach me to trust in your timing and not try to make things happen outside of your will.  Teach me how to discern and to prioritize your glory in everything I do.  I want to learn to trust you more than the desire to see my prayers being answer.  I look to you today.  Amen!
