THE MOUNTAIN YOU ARE FACING TODAY WILL BECOME LEVEL GROUND

SCRIPTURE:

“Then the angel who talked with me returned and woke me up like someone awakened from sleep. 2 He asked me, “What do you see?”  I answered, “I see a solid gold lampstand with a bowl at the top and seven lamps on it, with seven channels to the lamps. 3 Also, there are two olive trees by it, one on the right of the bowl and the other on its left.”  4 I asked the angel who talked with me, “What are these, my lord?”  5 He answered, “Do you not know what these are?”  “No, my lord,” I replied.  6 So he said to me, “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the Lord Almighty.  7 “What are you, mighty mountain? Before Zerubbabel, you will become level ground. Then he will bring out the capstone to shout, ‘ God bless it! God bless it!’”  8 Then the word of the Lord came to me: 9 “The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this temple; his hands will also complete it. Then you will know that the Lord Almighty has sent me to you.  10 “Who dares despise the day of small things, since the seven eyes of the Lord that range throughout the earth will rejoice when they see the chosen capstone in the hand of Zerubbabel?” (Zechariah 4:1—10)

OBSERVATION:

The word of the Lord to Zerubbabel in rebuilding the temple is, NOT BY MIGHT, NOR BY POWER, BUT BY MY SPIRIT, says the Lord Almighty.  Zerubbabel might have seen the challenge of rebuilding a temple as a vast mountain and something difficult to do.  Yet God is speaking that it is NOT by Might, nor by Power, but by MY SPIRIT, says the Lord.

Even though God called Zerubbabel to do the work, his HOLY SPIRIT is making it possible.  Is there any MOUNTAIN that God cannot move?  Before Zerubbabel, the MOUNTAIN will BECOME LEVEL GROUND.

What a powerful truth to know that it is not any of our power and might that will do what God asked us to do.  It is not any of our power that will level the mountains of challenges that we face.  It is going to be by the Spirit of God.  Anytime God calls us to do something, he is not calling us to depend on our might and power.  He is calling us to be led by His Spirit.

The second word of the Lord came to Zechariah for Zerubbabel was, The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this temple; his hands will also complete it.  When God calls us to do a work, he also calls us to finish the task.  No challenge is too difficult for God.  No mountains are too big for God.  We are not to DESPISE THE DAY OF SMALL BEGINNINGS.  The work we may be called to do may be difficult and trying.  But God wants us to delight in the days of small beginnings.  So many times, we only look to do greater things.  But God called us to be faithful so we can see his glory working through us.  Zerubbabel is to finish what God has called him to do.  God will bring out the capstone to the shout of, God bless it, God bless it.  “Who dares despise the day of small things, since the seven eyes of the Lord that range throughout the earth will rejoice when they see the chosen capstone in the hand of Zerubbabel?”

The seven eyes of the Lord that range throughout the earth will rejoice when the chosen capstone is in the hand of Zerubbabel.  The eyes of the Lord are over every work that he called us to do, from the beginning to its completion.  We should never assume that everything we do is because of our power and might.  It is always because of the Lord’s Spirit who called us, equipped us, and sent us forth with him always accompanying us in His calling.

APPLICATION:

I learned today that it is really about the Spirit of God and not my power and might that will help me in times of challenges.  God called me, knowing that I would face mountains of challenges here and there.  He called me not to do his work without the power of his Holy Spirit leading and overseeing everything I do.  I am grateful that the Holy Spirit continues to abide and work in my life for his purpose.

PRAYER:

Holy Spirit, thank you for reminding me that your power makes things possible.  Thank you for opening my eyes today to know that you are the one who oversees every work that you have called me to do.  Please help me to be sensitive to your presence and lead daily.  Forgive me when I think it’s all about me and my know-how experience that makes things possible.  I honor you and submit to your guidance and leadership.  In Jesus name, Amen!
