Not What I Want, But What You Want】
English follows
【Scripture】“[36] “Abba, Father,” he said, “everything is possible for you. Take this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.””Mark 14:36 NIV
【Observation】Jesus knew that His heavenly Father could do anything, and He may have known a way to avoid being crucified. But why did Jesus ask His heavenly Father to take away the cross, even though He knew He had come to this earth to be crucified? It is because, even though Jesus was God, He was also fully human. Yet even so, Jesus prioritized His heavenly Father’s will over His own desires.
【Application】Here we have a model of the way of life God truly desires for us: to seek not our own will, but that God’s will be done.
【Prayer】Lord, how much do I prioritize my own desires over Your will? When I look at the example of Jesus’ life, my own shortcomings become clear. My heart seeks only to satisfy my own desires and resists doing Your will. I do not want to die to myself. May I choose today to die to myself and prioritize Your will. 🙏
