【犠牲を払い、皆の模範になるネヘミヤ Nehemiah: Making Sacrifices and Setting an Example for All】

【御言葉】10 私も、私の親類の者も、私の配下の若い者たちも、彼らに金や穀物を貸してやったが、私たちはその負債を帳消しにしよう。11 だから、あなたがたも今日、彼らの畑、ぶどう畑、オリーブ畑、家、それに、あなたがたが彼らに貸していた金や穀物、新しいぶどう酒、油などの利息分を彼らに返してやりなさい。」12 すると彼らは、「私たちは返します。彼らから何も要求しません。私たちはあなたの言われるとおりにします」と言った。そこで私は祭司たちを呼んで、この約束を実行する誓いを立てさせた。ネヘミヤ記 5章 10〜12節

【観察】エルサレムの復興のために来たイスラエルの民は飢饉などで苦境に立たされており、貧しい家庭の子ども達は重い税のため、自分の子ども達を奴隷として売らなければならなかった。なぜなら、裕福な人達が貧しい人達を苦境に立たせている張本人だったからだ。そこでネヘミヤは彼らの前で自分に負債ある者達の全てを帳消しにすると宣言した。全ての負債を自分が負うと決断したのだ。そして、他の人達には利息分だけをなしにしてくれと頼んだ。しかし、彼らは全てを返すと約束した。するとネヘミヤは祭司を呼んで、それを実行する誓いを立てさせた。その時はそう思っても、後で気が変わるのが人間だからだ。ネヘミヤは素晴らしいリーダーだと思う。なぜなら、まずは自分が見本となり、実践しているからだ。

【適用】私は自分自ら行動しているだろうか？自分は犠牲を払わず、周りの人達に見本を見せず、これこれのことをやれと他の人に命令していないだろうか？もしそうなら、悔い改めて、ネヘミヤのように率先して行動すべきである。

【祈り】主よ、私が犠牲を惜しまず、皆の模範となり、行動することが出来ますように。私がネヘミヤのようなリーダーになれますように。🙏

【Scripture】“I and my brothers and my men are also lending the people money and grain. But let us stop charging interest! Give back to them immediately their fields, vineyards, olive groves and houses, and also the interest you are charging them—one percent of the money, grain, new wine and olive oil.” “We will give it back,” they said. “And we will not demand anything more from them. We will do as you say.” Then I summoned the priests and made the nobles and officials take an oath to do what they had promised. ”Nehemiah 5:10-12 NIV

【Observation】The people of Israel who had come to rebuild Jerusalem were facing hardship due to famine and other hardships, and children from poor families were forced to sell their own children into slavery because of heavy taxes. This was because the wealthy were the very ones driving the poor into this dire situation. So Nehemiah declared before them that he would cancel all the debts owed to him. He decided to take on all the debts himself. He then asked the others to waive only the interest. However, they promised to repay the full amount. So Nehemiah summoned the priests and had them take an oath to carry this out. This was because, although people may feel one way at the time, they are prone to changing their minds later. I think Nehemiah was a wonderful leader because he first set an example himself and put it into practice.

【Application】Am I taking action myself? Am I merely commanding others to “do this” without making any sacrifices or setting an example for those around me? If so, I must repent and take the lead, just as Nehemiah did.

【Prayer】Lord, may I be willing to make sacrifices, set an example for everyone, and take action. May I become a leader like Nehemiah. 🙏
