TITLE: WHEN FACING A DESPERATE MOMENT, COME TO JESUS
TITLE: WHEN FACING A DESPERATE MOMENT, COME TO JESUS
SCRIPTURE:
“Once more he visited Cana in Galilee, where he had turned the water into wine. And there was a certain royal official whose son lay sick at Capernaum. 47When this man heard that Jesus had arrived in Galilee from Judea, he went to him and begged him to come and heal his son, who was close to death. 48“Unless you people see signs and wonders,” Jesus told him, “you will never believe.” 49The royal official said, “Sir, come down before my child dies.” 50“Go,” Jesus replied, “your son will live.” The man took Jesus at his word and departed. 51While he was still on the way, his servants met him with the news that his boy was living. 52When he inquired as to the time when his son got better, they said to him, “Yesterday, at one in the afternoon, the fever left him.” 53Then the father realized that this was the exact time at which Jesus had said to him, “Your son will live.” So he and his whole household believed. 54This was the second sign Jesus performed after coming from Judea to Galilee.” (John 4:46-54 NIV)
OBSERVATION:
Many of us have stories of being in desperate situations in life. To have a real desperate situation at hand can throw our whole life into a chaotic existence. The certain man was in a desperate situation. His son was facing a matter of life and death situation. Many things can bring desperation into our lives. As a loving father like anyone of us will do for ourselves or a loved one, we will be seeking answers and solutions for the situation at hand.
This man heard that Jesus was in town, he went and begged him to come and heal his son. His son was close to death. It is one thing to hope for a solution, and it is quite another thing to go to the right place to find the solution. This certain officer went straight to Jesus. He must have already exhausted all he had on medical bills and the last hour of desperation, he heard Jesus was in town. Where do you turn in times of desperation? To whom do you run to? I learned some helpful thoughts and lessons from this certain desperate man.
§ Bring your need directly to Jesus…As a believer, I am reminded that Christ is already with me. I did not have to go and look for Jesus like this desperate father. I must look inside me where Jesus is and give him what I am desperate about. Christ is in me, NOW!
§ No matter how desperate our situation is, whether it is a near death experience or dead hope, come to Jesus and seek after him.
§ Keep holding on to Jesus at all cost…Even though the man heard Jesus words saying, “Unless You people see signs and wonder, you would never believe, the man still hold on to the hope that Christ is the answer…He never waiver in his faith. So many times we believers only look for “sign and wonders” but not the person of Jesus.
§ We must take Jesus at his word…Jesus said to the man “GO” your son will live…than man took Jesus at his word and departed. People often look for signs and wonder and are not listening to God’s word. God’s word always supercedes sign and wonders. Signs and wonders always follows God’s word, not God’s word follow signs and wonders. Miracles happens when Jesus speaks to our situation.
§ Do what Jesus said to do…the man did what Jesus said to do, and while he was still on the way, his servants met him with the news that his boy was living. Whenever we move at Jesus words, he meets us where we are. This man inquired as to what time the boy got better, and he found out it was EXACTLY the time Jesus spoke those words to him. I must learn to take Jesus at his word.
§ When we believer Jesus’ words, not only our prayers are answered, but also our families and others will receive his salvation. Everything happens in God’s timing. I have my timing, but Jesus always have the best timing and the exact timing to deal with everything we face in life.
APPLICATION:
I am reminded today that Jesus words is what I must trust and obey. I often approach Jesus with a sense of immediate answers to my desperation that I only look for sign and wonders, but not hearing his word. I learned today that I must listen and hear his word and obey it for miracles to happen. I will look to Jesus for his word to guide and lead me daily.
PRAYER:
Father, I want to thank you for reminding me today of the power of your word that speaks life to every situations that I face. I pray that you continue to speak your word into my mind and heart in moment that I am desperate for answers. Please lead me to trust in you and you alone. Help me never to seek sign and wonders but to seek you and your word. I pray all these in Jesus name. Amen!
