JESUS MAKES YOU WORTHY OF HIS CALLING

SCRIPTURE:

“With this in mind, we constantly pray for you that our God may make you worthy of his calling and that by his power, he may bring to fruition your every desire for goodness and your every deed prompted by faith. 12 We pray this so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.”  (2Thessalonians 1:11—12)

OBSERVATION:

Paul commended the faith of the Thessalonians.  He was proud of how they lived out their faith in the midst of difficulties.  Paul commended them for their increasing love for one another.  Paul boasted about their perseverance and faith in all the persecutions and trials they had to endure. Paul’s gratitude and thanksgiving turned into prayers for his brothers and sisters at Thessalonica.  Three things Paul prayed for his brothers and sisters at the church:

  • PRAY THAT GOD MAY MAKE THEM WORTHY OF HIS CALLING…It is God who makes us worthy.  Sometimes we fill unworthy to be used by the Lord; however, it is God who makes us worthy.  No one calls themselves to the service of Jesus.  Jesus calls all of us who feel unworthy of human standards to do the things that he calls us to do.
  • PRAY FOR GOD’S POWER…To bring to fruition their EVERY DESIRE for goodness and EVERY deed prompted by faith.  When God calls unworthy people, he is also able to empower us to produce the fruits of EVERY DESIRES for goodness and EVERY DEEDS that is prompted by faith.
  • PRAY THAT JESUS BE GLORIFIED IN THEM AND THEY IN HIM.  Every desire for goodness and every deed prompted by faith will bring glory to Jesus.  Jesus told his disciples to let their good works bring glory to the Father.

APPLICATION:

Paul’s reminded me of my duty to live out my life despite all the challenges and difficulties that I face.  I am reminded that it is my Father in Heaven who makes me worthy of his calling in my life.  I am not made worthy because of anyone’s choosing.  I stand before God as an unworthy person made worthy of his calling.  I will keep this truth in mind as I walk with Jesus.  I am made worthy by God for his calling.  I am empowered by God to have a fruitful life.  And I am being gloried in Christ as I glorify him.

PRAYER:

Jesus, I thank you, for you are the one who makes me worthy of your calling.  I am an unworthy sinner saved by your grace.  I thank you for making my life worthy of your purpose.  Thank you for empowering me to live a fruitful life.  I am humbled to be glorified in You because of Your calling and grace.  I pray that you continue to live out these truths in my life daily.  Teach me, correct me, and rebuke me as you see fit for your purpose.  In your name, I pray, Amen!
