Not My Own Words, but the Words of Jesus】
English follows
【Scripture】“[14] The disciples had forgotten to bring bread, except for one loaf they had with them in the boat. [15] “Be careful,” Jesus warned them. “Watch out for the yeast of the Pharisees and that of Herod.” [16] They discussed this with one another and said, “It is because we have no bread.””Mark 8:14-16 NIV
【Observation】When Jesus said, “Be on your guard against the leaven of the Pharisees and Herod,” the disciples were worried that they hadn’t brought enough bread, so they mistakenly felt that Jesus was rebuking them for not bringing any. Don’t we sometimes confuse what Jesus is saying with the message we’re using to blame ourselves? When we read the Bible, aren’t we, like the disciples, listening to the voice within us rather than hearing the truth Jesus is trying to convey?
【Application】Entrust your own thoughts and assumptions to God, and listen intently to what Jesus is saying.
【Prayer】Lord, there are many messages in my heart, and at times they distort Your words. I mistake the messages within me for what You have said, leading me to think, “You are rebuking me.” But that is a lie. Those are not Your words; they are my own. Lord, please help me to hear Your words instead of listening to my own. 🙏
