English follows

【Scripture】
31 After they had left, they discussed the matter among themselves: “This man has done nothing to deserve death or imprisonment.”
32 Agrippa also said to Festus, “This man would have been set free if he had not appealed to Caesar.”
Acts 26:31–32

【Observation】
As a result of the trial, both Festus and King Agrippa recognized that Paul was innocent. We might think that if Paul had not appealed to Caesar, he would have been released. However, even if Paul had been released without appealing, he would likely have been assassinated by the Jews as soon as he stepped outside.
Paul had received a calling from God to bear witness in Rome. Isn’t that why he appealed? When we are going through difficult times, we naturally want to find relief. We tend to think that if we were free rather than in prison, we could do much more for God’s work. Yet even while imprisoned, Paul fulfilled God’s calling.

【Application】
We often think that if only “this weren’t the case” or “this problem were solved,” we could fulfill God’s calling. However, fulfilling God’s calling does not depend on the absence of problems. We can fulfill God’s calling even in the midst of problems.

【Prayer】
Lord, I find myself thinking that if only this problem were solved, I could obey You more fully. But that is a lie. Looking at Paul, I can see that even in the midst of problems, we can obey You. May I, too, continue to follow You even as I face difficulties. 🙏
