【愛はプラスアルファ Love Goes the Extra Mile】

【御言葉】9「姦淫してはならない。殺してはならない。盗んではならない。隣人のものを欲してはならない」という戒め、またほかのどんな戒めであっても、それらは、「あなたの隣人を自分自身のように愛しなさい」ということばに要約されるからです。10 愛は隣人に対して悪を行いません。それゆえ、愛は律法の要求を満たすものです。ローマ人への手紙 13章 9〜10節

【観察】十戒の後半の5つはすべて「〜してはならない。」と隣人に対し、悪いことをするなと言っている。律法はマイナス1から0を目指せと言う。しかし、愛は悪いことをしないどころか、それ以上の良いことをするよう求める。愛はマイナス1からプラス1を目指せと言うのだ。愛は隣人に悪を行わず、善を行うからだ。イエス様がしたように。

【適用】悪いことをしないことにフォーカスするのではなく、良いことをすることにフォーカスする。相手を愛するとは良いことをすること。私達の師が人を愛したのだから、私達もその師の生き方に従うべきである。

【祈り】主よ、私は弱い人間です。その人が怠けると、そのしわ寄せが私のところに来ます。その人に言っても変わりません。その人に悪を行わないことで精一杯なのに、その人に良いことをせよと言うのですか？主よ、私が望むことでなく、あなたが望むことを私がすることが出来ますように。今日、その人のために祈り、善を行います。あなたの愛で私を満たしてください。🙏

【Scripture】Romans 13:9-10 NIV[9] The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not covet,” and whatever other command there may be, are summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” [10] Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.

【Observation】The last five of the Ten Commandments all begin with “You shall not…” and tell us not to do evil to our neighbors. The law tells us to aim for 0 from a starting point of -1.However, love not only tells us not to do evil, but demands that we do good beyond that. Love tells us to aim for a positive 1, not just a negative 1.This is because love does no harm to our neighbor but does good—just as Jesus did.

【Application】Instead of focusing on not doing evil, focus on doing good. To love someone is to do good for them. Since our Teacher loved people, we too should follow His example.

【Prayer】Lord, I am a weak human being. When that person is lazy, the burden falls on me. Telling him doesn’t change anything. I’m already doing my best just to avoid doing evil to him—are you telling me to do good for him?Lord, may I do what you desire, not what I desire. Today, I will pray for that person and do good. Fill me with your love.🙏
