TITLE: NEVER GET TIRED OF SERVING JESUS BY SERVING HIS PEOPLE
SCRIPTURE:
“God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them. 11 We want each of you to show this same diligence to the very end, so that what you hope for may be fully realized. 12 We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised.” (Hebrews 6:10—12 NIV)
OBSERVATION:
This is an encouraging letter to believers who work for and love Jesus while helping His people. Sometimes, believers underestimate their contributions to Jesus and His followers. Everything we do for the Lord is seen and known by God; our ministry efforts are ultimately for God.
In Paul’s letter to the believers in Colosse, he wrote, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” (Colossians 3:23—24 NIV)
The writer of Hebrews affirms that God is just and will remember the work and love we show Him as we assist His people and keep doing so. Our efforts for Christ will never be unnoticed; He acknowledges all our labors driven by love.
Any work done without love for Christ will become burdensome. If we serve out of obligation, it’s better not to act at all. Serving Christ out of love brings great reward and inheritance from the Lord. Our efforts, services, and sacrifices in serving Christ by serving His people are richly rewarded.
The writer also emphasizes the significance of our attitude in serving Christ and His people. Here are key points regarding that attitude:
– We must serve Christ out of reverent love.
– We must serve out of love, not obligation.
– We must serve others out of love for Christ.
– We must serve Christ and others diligently until the end.
– We must avoid laziness in our service to Christ.
– We must imitate those who, through faith and patience, inherit the promises.
Jesus observes our hearts and motivations in everything we do for Him. God is just and will reward us for our efforts. He is faithful and sees all we do as we serve His people. The true measure of serving God and His purpose is to serve others. While no one may see what I do outside the church, people recognize my service to Christ when I assist others.
APPLICATION:
I admit, at times, my attitude can be poor. I often focus on myself and my actions. Today, I am reminded that Christ observes how I serve Him through my service to others. I aspire to act for Christ out of love, not obligation. Every day, I want to serve Jesus wholeheartedly. I commit to faithfully fulfilling all I am called to in honor and reverence of Christ.
PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, thank You for reminding me to serve You from a place of love. Please grant me the strength to love those You have placed in my life to serve. Help me to do everything for Your glory. Teach me to serve Your people well out of love for You. I look to You, Lord, for grace and guidance. Lead me, I pray. Amen!
