TITLE: TO BE PROSPER IN GOD IS NOT ASKING FOR WEALTH BUT FOR HEART OF OBEDIENCE
SCRIPTURE:
“This is what Hezekiah did throughout Judah, doing what was good and right and faithful before the Lord his God. In everything that he undertook in the service of God’s temple and in obedience to the law and the commands, he sought his God and worked wholeheartedly. And so he prospered.” (2 Chronicles 31:20-21 NIV)
OBSERVATION:
Hezekiah the king pleases the Lord with his attitude of bringing the nation of Israel back to the Lord. There were many kings before him who have sinned and chose the wrong path, and as a result the people of Israel were not walking with their God as they should.
Hezekiah brought the nation back and reconnect them to their God. He did everything that was right in the eyes of the Lord. How crucial this is for me as a believer and a child of God to imitate and emulate how king Hezekiah serves his God.
Things I am reminded of today from Hezekiah’s life and attitude in serving God.
§ He did what was right before his God
§ He did what was good before his God
§ He was faithful before before his God
§ He did everything that he undertook in the service of God in obedience to the law and the commands
§ He sought his God
§ He worked wholeheartedly for his God
AND SO HE PROSPERED. There are ways people seek God so they can be prospered. Many believers pray for prosperity, by asking God to prosper them financially, or with wealth. Prosperity in people’s mind only has to do with wealth. But Hezekiah has revealed to me that prosperity with material wealth is not what he was after. Hezekiah was seeking to be prosperous in the ways of relationship with God.
Hezekiah was prosperous because he was seeking his God’s will and purpose not only for himself but the welfare of his nation. God prosperity comes not by way of wealth in the world definition, but by seeking after God’s purpose and will.
Hezekiah shows us what will bring God’s blessing and prosperity to a life who served him wholeheartedly. He did not serve his God so he may be rich financially. He served his God so he may fulfill his purpose. When God is please with our attitude of service he will prosper everything we do. Hezekiah contended for the presence of God more than material wealth.
Hezekiah did what was good, right and faithful before his God. In everything he undertook in the service of God’s temple was done in obedience to the law and the commands of God. He sought after him, and worked wholeheartedly.
APPLICATION:
I want to emulate and imitate Hezekiah’s attitude as he seeks God’s best for his people and for himself. Today, I will continue to make a point to seek to be prosperous with the presence of my God more than prosperity of wealth. I want to be rich toward God rather than find security in material wealth.
PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, I thank you for opening my eyes to your truth today. Thank you for the examples of Hezekiah as he sought to bring your presence back to your people. Please help me to do what is good, right and to do it faithfully. Help me to undertake everything with a heart of obedience to your word. Teach me how to work for you and walk with you wholeheartedly. I ask for my life to be prosper- in your ways. In Jesus name, Amen!
