【神の方がいつも正しい God Is Always Right】

【御言葉】23 エリシャはそこからベテルへ上って行った。彼が道を上って行くと、その町から小さい子どもたちが出て来て彼をからかい、「上って来い、はげ頭。上って来い、はげ頭」と言ったので、24 彼は向き直って彼らをにらみつけ、主の名によって彼らをのろった。すると、森の中から二頭の雌熊が出て来て、子どもたちのうち四十二人をかき裂いた。列王記第二 2章 23〜24節
【観察】聖書には「えっ！」と思えるようなことが書かれている。これを言葉通りに読めば、「預言者をちょっとからかっただけで、42人もの子どもが殺された。神はひどい神だ。」ということになる。神は本当にひどい神なのだろうか？いや、私が信じている神は良い神で正しい神であるから、彼らが死に値することをしたと考える方が妥当だ。私にはこの時代の文化的背景が良く分からないし、「登ってこい、ハゲ頭」という言葉が実際どんな意味を持っていたかも分からない。しかし、彼らが言った言葉は預言者が呪うほどの悪い意味を持っており、神様が熊を送って裁かれるほど、神を侮辱する言葉だったに違いない。
【適用】主を正しく恐れる。
【祈り】主よ、私の心を探ってください。私の心の中にあなたを侮辱する思いがありませんか？もしあったなら、私は悔い改めます。私は人間であり、あなたのなさること、すべてを理解できません。しかし、私はあなたの裁きがいつも正しいと信じます。間違っても、自分の方があなたより正しいなどと思うことがありませんように。🙏
【Scripture】2 Kings 2:23-24 NIV[23] From there Elisha went up to Bethel. As he was walking along the road, some boys came out of the town and jeered at him. “Get out of here, baldy!” they said. “Get out of here, baldy!” [24] He turned around, looked at them and called down a curse on them in the name of the Lord. Then two bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of the boys.
【Observation】The Bible contains stories that make you think, “Wait, what?!” If you read this literally, it suggests, “Just for teasing the prophet a little, as many as 42 children were killed. God is a cruel God.” Is God really such a cruel God?No, since the God I believe in is a good and righteous God, it is more reasonable to think that they did something deserving of death. I don’t fully understand the cultural context of that era, nor do I know exactly what the phrase “Come up here, you baldhead” actually meant. However, the words they spoke must have carried such a malicious meaning that the prophet cursed them, and they must have been words that insulted God enough for Him to send bears to judge them.
【Application】Fear the Lord rightly.
【Prayer】Lord, search my heart. Is there any thought within me that insults You? If so, I repent. I am human and cannot understand everything You do. But I believe Your judgment is always righteous. Please keep me from ever thinking—even by mistake—that I am more righteous than You. 🙏
