TITLE: THE INDESTRUCTIBLE LIFE LIVES IN YOU

SCRIPTURE:

“If perfection could have been attained through the Levitical priesthood—and indeed the law given to the people established that priesthood—why was there still need for another priest to come, one in the order of Melchizedek, not in the order of Aaron? 12 For when the priesthood is changed, the law must be changed also. 13 He of whom these things are said belonged to a different tribe, and no one from that tribe has ever served at the altar. 14 For it is clear that our Lord descended from Judah, and in regard to that tribe Moses said nothing about priests. 15 And what we have said is even more clear if another priest like Melchizedek appears, 16 one who has become a priest not on the basis of a regulation as to his ancestry but on the basis of the power of an indestructible life. 17 For it is declared: “You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.” 18 The former regulation is set aside because it was weak and useless 19 (for the law made nothing perfect), and a better hope is introduced, by which we draw near to God. 20 And it was not without an oath! Others became priests without any oath, 21 but he became a priest with an oath when God said to him: “The Lord has sworn and will not change his mind: ‘You are a priest forever.’” 22 Because of this oath, Jesus has become the guarantor of a better covenant.  23 Now there have been many of those priests, since death prevented them from continuing in office; 24 but because Jesus lives forever, he has a permanent priesthood. 25 Therefore he is able to save completely[c] those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.  26 Such a high priest truly meets our need—one who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens. 27 Unlike the other high priests, he does not need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins, and then for the sins of the people. He sacrificed for their sins once for all when he offered himself. 28 For the law appoints as high priests men in all their weakness; but the oath, which came after the law, appointed the Son, who has been made perfect forever.” (Hebrews 7:11—28 NIV)

OBSERVATION:

The writer of Hebrews differentiates the two priesthoods that the Hebrew believers were familiar with in their history. One is the priesthood after the order of Melchizedek, and the other is after the order of Aaron. Aaron was from the tribe of Levi, but the priest who came after the order of Melchizedek is descended from the tribe of Judah.  Interestingly, all the priests who served in the priesthood office were from the tribe of Levi.  But no one from any other tribe of Israel, including Judah, has ever served as a priest.

Unlike the priests who served in the priesthood from the tribe of Levi, who became priests based on regulations regarding their ancestry, the priest, after the order of Melchizedek, becomes a priest based on the POWER OF AN INDESTRUCTIBLE LIFE.  The new priesthood, after the order of Melchizedek, comes with the power of an indestructible life.  The law that came under the Aaron Priesthood is weak and useless because it does not bring life, and it doesn’t get perfection.

But the priesthood of Christ after the order of Melchizedek comes with an OATH from God himself.  This oath declares that this priest Christ will be forever.  Others who came after the Aaron priest all died, and another one will take their place.  Because of God’s oath that Christ will be priest forever, Christ also brings us indestructible life.

I am so blessed to read the fantastic blessings Christ the forever priest brings into my life.

  • He draws us nearer to God more than the law.
  • He gives me better hope.
  • He is able to save us completely those who come to God through him
  • He always lives to intercede for us
  • He truly meets our need
  • He sacrifices for our sins by offering himself once and for all.

This is the guaranteed for those who put their trust in Christ.  God the father has given an oath, that Jesus will be priest forever and he will never die.  He brings to us the power of an indestructible life.  What an amazing assurance that I can put my whole heart in and believe Jesus.  It is such a powerful affirmation of who Jesus is and the power that he has to bring about our salvation.

APPLICATION:

I desire to know more of the power of the indestructible life that is in Christ daily.  How often I don’t realize how powerful it is to know that in me live Jesus the indestructible life of God.  I want to know him more and more and this is my prayer and desire.

PRAYER:
