TITLE: PAY THE MOST CAREFUL ATTENTION OR YOU WILL DRIFT

“We must pay the most careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away. 2 For since the message spoken through angels was binding, and every violation and disobedience received its just punishment, 3 how shall we escape if we ignore so great a salvation? This salvation, which was first announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard him. 4 God also testified to it by signs, wonders and various miracles, and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will.”  (Hebrews 2:1—4 NIV)

OBSERVATION:

The writer gave believers a warning to “pay the most careful attention” therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away.  The first chapter of this letter, the writer told the audience of the supremacy if Christ over angels.  He also reminded believers that in the past, God spoke to them through prophets and various ways, but now, God is speaking to us through Christ Jesus.

None of the angels will ever take Christ place.  Jesus is now the mouthpiece of God who speaks to everyone.  The angels were to worship Jesus.  God made the angels his ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation.

But to Jesus, he said, “Your throne, O God, will last forever and ever; a scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom.  You loved righteousness and hated wickedness.  The writer also reminded his readers that Jesus Christ is the exact likeness of God. He is the creator of the universe and nothing that is created was created without him.  Jesus provides our purification from sin and is seated in the heavens at the right hand of the Majesty of heave.

These are what the writer is encouraging his readers to pay the most careful attention to have they have heard.  If not they will drift away from the truth.  I too must pay the most careful attention to what I have heard of Christ and holdfast to it.

Believers tends to drift in their faith between truth and falsehood.  They drift from the most only faith.  We often give in to the problem of the world we face.  Everything about Jesus, the Father has already testified to it by signs, wonders and various miracles and by the gift of the Holy Spirit distributing according to his will.

The warning is important.  If I do not pay the most careful attention to what Christ is saying, we will shipwreck our faith.  It is very easy to drift.

APPLICATION:

I will continue to seek after my Heavenly Father’s will.  I will continue to commit to Father’s word.  I want to commit myself to read more and connect more with Christ and be anchor in him so I will not drift from him.  I want to make every effort to connect with Christ through his word and to learn of him daily.

PRAYER:

Heavenly Father, I thank you for reminding me to hold on to your truth and the things that you have taught me throughout the years of who you are.  Please help me continue to make right choices and to have the fear of you be a part of my life daily.  I pray that you help me be anchor in your son Jesus daily.  Amen!
