JESUS IS OUR DELIVERER FROM STRUGGLE WITH SIN
SCRIPTURE:
“For I know that good itself doesn’t not dwell in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. 19 For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do this I keep doing. 20 Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it. 21 So I ding this law at work: Although I want to do good, evil is right there with me. 22. For in my inner being I delight in God’s law; 23. But I see another law at work in me, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within me. 24. What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that subject to death? 25. Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God’s law, but in my sinful nature a slave to the law of sin.” (Romans 7:18–25 NIV)
OBSERVATION:
Paul face a struggle and a dilemma two issues in life. One has to do with the sinful nature and God’s law. He desires to do what is good but feels powerless to carry it out. Paul said, For I do not do the good that I want to do, but the evil I don not want to do this I keep on doing it.
Paul continues, saying, my inner being delights in God’s law, but sin is waging a war against me. Paul feels like a prisoner between these two realities. How often that this is my battle as well. I want to do good, and my inner person desires to what pleases God, but often fallen short.
Paul felt trapped and not knowing what to do. He said, what a wretched man that I am! Who will rescue me from this predicament? Paul answered his own question. BUT THANKS BE TO GOD WHO DELIVERS ME THROUGH JESUS CHRIST OUR LORD.
This is an amazing conclusion to Paul’s sense of being a prisoner. There is no power of earth that can deliver me from sin, but the power of Jesus. He is my deliverer, my rescuer and the only one who is able to set me free from the TRAP of sin in my life.
APPLICATION:
It is worthy of it all to be reminded today that the struggle with win is real and also the power of God through Jesus is able to rescue me from my sins. Today is a good day to know that I am indeed freed from the power of sin and have been set free by Jesus. I don’t need to be a prisoner who is trapped between what to do and what not to do. And even in times of confusion, Jesus is able to rescue me and set me free. I will continue to cherish this daily.
PRAYER:
Jesus you are my only hope, the one who rescue and set me free from the trapped prisoner of sin to a child of God. I am grateful for my salvation and will never take for granted your love, mercy and grace. I thank you for setting me free. I commit myself afresh to you daily. I give myself to you for your purposes. Amen!
